ATLKey FAQ
Q1 | What is ATLKey mainly used for?
ATLKey is a physical security key that can be used for:
- Two-factor / multi-factor authentication login (2FA / MFA)
- Passwordless login (Passkey / FIDO2)
It effectively protects against phishing attacks, account takeover, and weak-password risks.
Q2 | Is ATLKey easy to use? Is it complicated?
It's very easy to get started.
ATLKey is plug-and-play — no extra software to install. Just plug it in and follow the on-screen instructions.
The metal touch button uses a capacitive design, so it's easy to tap even when plugged into tightly spaced ports; the USB-C connector is also designed to work with thick phone cases.
Q3 | Which operating systems and platforms are supported?
ATLKey supports all major systems and platforms, including:
- Operating systems: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android
- Browsers: Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox
- Common services: Google, Microsoft, Meta, Dropbox, and more
Actual support depends on whether each platform offers "security key / Passkey" settings.
Q4 | Why use ATLKey instead of an OTP authenticator app?
OTP apps still require you to enter a password and a verification code, which can be tricked out of you by phishing sites.
ATLKey verifies with cryptographic keys — no codes to type. Login requires physically plugging in and touching the key, making it far more phishing-resistant.
Q5 | Does it work with Lightning iPhones?
ATLKey uses a USB-C connector and does not directly support Lightning iPhones (iPhone 14 and earlier). However, it can be used with an Apple official or compatible Lightning → USB-C adapter.
⚠️ Using an adapter may be slightly less convenient. If you have a USB-C device, we recommend using it directly for the best experience.
Q6 | How much data can ATLKey store?
- Two-factor / multi-factor login, 2FA / MFA (U2F): unlimited in principle
- Passwordless login (Passkey / Resident Key): up to 100
Q7 | What is passwordless login (Passkey)? Does ATLKey support it?
- Passwordless login (Passkey) lets you sign in without typing a password — verification is completed directly with your security key.
- ATLKey supports FIDO2 Passkeys and can store up to 100 of them.
Q8 | How do I set a PIN? How long should it be?
- Minimum 4 characters.
- We recommend 6–8 characters, mixing numbers and letters.
⚠️ Be sure to remember your PIN. Too many incorrect entries will lock the key, and it can only be restored by a reset — which erases all data.
Q9 | Can data be recovered after resetting ATLKey?
No.
A reset erases all data on the key and cannot be undone. If you ever need to wipe all data, a reset is also the way to do it.
Q10 | Does ATLKey come with a warranty?
ATLKey comes with a one-year warranty. Within 12 months of purchase, you can request repair or replacement for defects not caused by misuse or accidental damage.
Loss & Backup
Q11 | What should I do if I lose my ATLKey?
Recommended steps:
- Sign in to your accounts using your backup ATLKey or another registered key.
- Go to each platform's security settings and remove the lost key.
- Register a new ATLKey.
⚠️ We strongly recommend registering at least one backup security key in advance.
Q12 | Why is a backup ATLKey essential?
If your primary key is lost, damaged, or locked, a backup key ensures you can still sign in to your accounts without interruption.
Advanced
Q13 | What security protections does ATLKey have?
- PIN protection with limited retry attempts
- The key locks after repeated incorrect entries, preventing brute-force attacks
- PUF hardware-level tamper resistance
Q14 | What happens if I keep entering the wrong PIN?
Example flow:
1️⃣ After several incorrect entries, the system asks you to unplug and re-insert the key.
2️⃣ After a certain number of repeated errors, you'll be required to enter your recovery phrase.
3️⃣ One more incorrect entry will permanently lock the key.
⚠️ The exact number of attempts may vary slightly by operating system.
⚠️ Once locked, the key can only be restored by a reset, which erases all data.
Q15 | Is ATLKey durable?
ATLKey features a one-piece, crush-resistant design, has passed water and dust resistance testing, requires no battery or network connection, and is built for everyday carry.
Q16 | Does it work with thick phone cases?
Yes. The USB-C connector and button are designed with thick cases in mind — just plug in and use.
Q17 | Where can I reset my PIN?
On Windows, for example:
Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options → Security key → Manage, then follow the on-screen instructions.
⚠️ Resetting erases all data on the key.
⚠️ See the detailed setup guide for more.
Q18 | Does ATLKey support SSH login?
Yes — SSH authentication is supported via the FIDO2 interface.
(Our step-by-step guide is coming soon — contact us if you need help in the meantime.)
Q19 | Is ATLKey FIDO Certified?
Yes. ATLKey has passed:
- FIDO2 L1 (CTAP2.1)
- U2F L1 certification
You can verify this on the FIDO Alliance website (Company: Atlancube LTD. / Product: ATLKey).
Q20 | Is ATLKey listed in the FIDO MDS?
Yes. ATLKey's metadata has been uploaded to the FIDO MDS (Metadata Service), allowing platforms to verify the key's authenticity and security status.
